What is DEET?

N, N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide, the chemical name for DEET, is the most common active ingredient in insect repellents. When applied to the skin or clothing, it provides protection against mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, chiggers, leeches, and other biting insects.
